AVB Audio and Video Interoperability Demo at InfoComm 2011

UMAN’s network operating system UNOS makes AVB compliant audio and video networking happen. Embedded software UNOS Core adapted to platforms from Lab X, XMOS and Marvell.

Düsseldorf/Orlando, July 2011. The German software and network specialist UMAN enhances its efforts for interoperability of AVB compliant hardware solutions. At this year’s infoComm an AVB compliant multi platform, audio/video network is managed through a single coherent and platform independent software environment: UNOS Core – the embedded part of the netOS UNOS - is ported to LAB X, XMOS and Marvell based hardware. Graphical user interfaces are realized by the platform independent UNOS Creator/UNOS Vision solution.

The system on display at the AVnu  Pavilion 383b not only manages AVB audio end nodes from XMOS but also AVB video solutions based on Marvell chipsets and furthermore one of the first available AVB bridges, Titanium 411 from US AVB specialist LAB X. All parameters from end nodes and AVB bridges can be graphically visualized and managed on PC, Mac and iPad by UNOS Vision. HD Video content is played out by a PC utilizing UNOS Creator. UNOS provides an abstraction to the various AVB standards and is compliant to current and future IEEE 1722.1 definitions and standards.

Robby Gurdan CTO of UMAN GmbH and CEO of UMAN Technologies ZA: ”UNOS provides a standardized solution that not only solves the pressing interfacing problems, such as media connection and inter-device communication in AVB supported media networks. It also provides solutions from device discovery over connection management, grouping/clustering of parameters and control in real time up to the creation of graphical, tactile and gesture controlled user interfaces: all within a software framework that runs on embedded, tablet- and PC platforms.”

Jürgen Scheuring, CEO of UMAN adds:” UNOS significantly reduces time-to-market, lowers costs and reduces development risks for manufacturers that want to make use of AVB in their products. Development time for a state-of-the art network environment that formerly took years drops down to weeks with UNOS. We are very happy with this next major step by integrating AVB bridges and video into our standard set up”

UMAN believes that audio and video will share one network in the near future and therefore works on h.264 based AVB compliant video network solutions and supports manufacturers in hardware and software development in these areas.

UNOS Vision for the iPad:

UMAN announces the iPad version of its freeware browser UNOS Vision

After the successful presentation of the UNOS network operating system at the prolight+sound 2010, UMAN GmbH has announced its latest development: an iPad-compatible version of the UNOS Vision freeware browser: "The iPad is just the beginning," promises UMAN Managing Director Jürgen Scheuring.

Dusseldorf / Munich, September 2010 – Earlier this year, UMAN GmbH presented for the first time its network operating system UNOS at the prolight+sound trade fair in Frankfurt. With great success. The software has quickly established itself in the months since as the manufacturer-independent command and control standard in the AV industry. To further this development, UMAN is now presenting its latest software: an iPad-compatible version of its freeware browser UNOS Vision.

"The iPad implementation is only the first of a series of new and revolutionary user interface concepts that UNOS is going to be presenting in the near future," says Jürgen Scheuring, UMAN's Managing Director. "Users of complex media equipment these days expect far more than just PC software for the manufacturer-specific remote control of devices. What they want are highly integrated, platform-independent systems."

The iPad version of UNOS Vision is a further extension of netOS, which offers manufacturer-independent command & control for AVB and proprietary networks. Furthermore, UMAN is demonstrating once again with the new implementation the enormous flexibility of UNOS. UNOS users are now able to offer their customers immediately the iPad version of UNOS Vision—an attractive, forward-looking service that constitutes, moreover, a significant competitive advantage. "The iPad is going to become widely established in the market. Many users will therefore soon be availing themselves of our service."

Upon request, anyone interested can test a demo version online.

About netOS UNOS

In its Universal Network Operating System (UNOS), UMAN is offering a comprehensive platform- and network-independent software for audio, video and lighting networks. UNOS provides devices with a streaming interface as well as an uncomplicated and powerful graphic user interface (GUI). UNOS offers manufacturers rapid and risk-free migration to Ethernet audio-video bridging (AVB) without costly in-house development.  UNOS netOS is divided into three program groups: UNOS Core, UNOS Creator and UNOS Vision.
The platform-independent freeware browser Vision runs under the Windows, Mac OS, Linux and iPhone operating systems and makes it possible for users to control all connected devices remotely in a single UNOS-controlled network.
